How to Add SynapseChat

Connecting your community to the global network is quick and easy! Follow these steps to invite SynapseChat to your server and set up the cross-server chat channel.

Step 1: Invite SynapseChat to Your Server

1. Click on the official invite link: https://discord.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=1381206034269339658&permissions=534724996160&integration_type=0&scope=bot+applications.commands
   
   

2. Select the server you wish to add the bot to from the dropdown menu.
   
   

3. Review the requested permissions. SynapseChat requires the following permissions to function correctly:
   
   Essential Permissions:
   
   

   • Send Messages - To send cross-chat embeds and responses

   • Manage Messages - To delete original messages before reposting as embeds

   • Embed Links - To create rich message embeds for cross-chat

   • Read Message History - To process messages and check context

   • Use Slash Commands - To respond to modern slash commands

   • Use External Emojis - For moderator badges and status indicators

4. Additional Permissions for Full Functionality:

   • View Channel - To access configured cross-chat channels

   • Attach Files - To relay file attachments in cross-chat

   • Connect-Basic connection to servers 

5. Click "Authorize."
   
   

6. Complete the CAPTCHA verification if prompted.
   
   

Step 2: Create Your Global Chat Channel

1. Navigate to your Discord server's channel list.

2. Click the + icon next to "Text Channels" or "Voice Channels" (depending on where you want it).

3. Choose Text Channel.

4. Name the channel: We highly recommend naming it something clear like 🌐︱cross-server-chat, #global-chat, or #synapse-chat. Consistency helps users find it across different servers!

5. Set the channel permissions:

   • Ensure SynapseChat has all the Essential and desired Additional permissions listed above in this specific channel.

   • Ensure your server members have Read Messages and Send Messages permissions in this channel.

6. Click "Create Channel."

Step 3: Activate Cross-Chat for the Channel

1. Go to the newly created cross-chat channel (e.g., #cross-server-chat).

2. Use the /setup  command in this channel.

   • (Requires Administrator permission on Discord to run this command.)

3. SynapseChat will confirm successful setup with a ✅ message. This channel is now linked to the global network!

Step 4: Test the System

1. Send a test message in the cross-chat channel you just set up.

2. Your original message will get a deleted and Sent to other Servers after being checked by the AutoMod System. If a message is Blocked You should receive a DM with reason.

3. The embed in other servers will display your username and the name of your server.

Who Can Manage SynapseChat in Your Server

This outlines the roles and permissions for managing the bot within your server and the broader SynapseChat network:

• Server Administrators (with Administrator permission on Discord):
  
  

  • Set up cross-chat channels (/setup)

  • Issue warnings to users (/gwarn). These warnings will trigger an alert in our official SynapseChat Support Discord for our staff to review and take further action (such as network-wide mutes or bans) if needed.

• Bot Owner and SynapseChat Support Team:
  
  

  • All abilities listed for Server Administrators.

  • Ban users from the global cross-chat network (/ban, /tempban)

  • Manage auto-moderation settings (/automod)

  • Ban entire servers from the global network (/serverban)

  • These actions are taken after reviewing alerts from server warnings or direct reports.

Important Considerations for Server Administrators:

• Moderation Responsibility: While our staff handles network-wide bans, you are responsible for moderating content from your server members that flows into the global chat. Ensure your server's rules align with our Terms of Service and that your moderation team is aware of cross-server chat guidelines.

• Consider adding a Chat Cooldown between 5 and 10 seconds to help combat Spam across the network.

• Permissions Maintenance: If SynapseChat loses essential permissions in the designated channel, its cross-server functionality will cease. Regularly check its permissions to ensure continuous operation.

• User Expectations: Inform your members that messages sent in this channel will be visible on many other Discord servers and are part of a public, interconnected chat.
